Relationship Between Information Communication and Technology Adoption Processes and Performance of Public Building Construction Projects in Kenya

Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals call for adequate and suitable housing by 2030, yet the performance of public building construction projects continues to be unsatisfactory globally and in Kenya specifically. The relationship between ICT adoption and performance of public building construction projects remains insufficiently investigated empirically. This study examined the relationship between ICT adoption in design, procurement, supervision, and modern construction methods and the performance of public building construction projects in Kenya. A survey of 105 National Construction Authority Category 1 building contractors who participated in public building construction projects between 2015 and 2020 was conducted using structured questionnaires, with data analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests. The findings established that ICT adoption in procurement and modern construction methods had the most significant positive relationship with quality, cost, and time performance. The study recommends that the government and contracting organizations should invest in ICT infrastructure, structured skills training, and awareness programs on modern construction methods to improve public building construction project performance in Kenya.
